Google Gemini is set to enhance its image analysis capabilities with a new highlighting tool, currently in development. This feature, discovered in version 16.42.61 of the Google app, allows users to circle or mark specific portions of an image for in-depth analysis. Unlike the existing functionality where users add images without editing options, this tool enables users to scribble over images and highlight areas for processing. This capability seems to mirror the “Circle to Search” function, enhancing user interaction. Users can send highlighted images to Gemini, and even request modifications, such as removing marked sections, utilizing the Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana) model. The highlighting tool, although not yet polished, indicates Google’s commitment to improving user experience by combining convenience and powerful image editing. With multiple colors available for highlighting, the feature appears to be nearing release, promising significant utility for Gemini users.
