Microsoft is developing a specialized version of its Copilot AI assistant for the US military, set to launch by summer 2025. This military-grade Copilot, tailored for the Department of Defense (DoD), is being designed to meet stringent security and compliance standards. Currently, Copilot is integrated into Microsoft 365 tools like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for general users. The company is also working to make Copilot available on its GCC High cloud platform for government clients this year. Additionally, the General Services Administration (GSA) plans to launch AI.gov, a platform enabling US government agencies to access AI tools from various companies. This initiative will include features for tracking AI usage and fostering implementation at the agency level. Other AI companies like Anthropic and Meta are also advancing their offerings for the defense sector, reflecting the increasing importance of AI in government operations and national security.
