eBay Temporarily Halts AI Video Creation for Social Media, Reevaluates Seller Marketing Strategies

eBay has suspended its generative AI video creation tool for social media, initially launched in May to help sellers create YouTube and TikTok-ready videos from their listings. The tool offered two templates: a lighting effect for enhancing images and a simple slideshow format. However, sellers reported frustrations over its limitations, including the inability to edit text overlays and long processing times. Despite some success in attracting social media traffic, the feature suddenly became unavailable, prompting inquiries about whether it was a technical issue or an intentional removal. eBay’s Product team confirmed the tool is “paused” while reevaluating how to better support sellers’ social media marketing goals. Many users believe eBay could also benefit from reinstating the previously promised discounted Final Value Fee (FVF) incentive for social sharing. Seller feedback is crucial as eBay refines its strategy for enhancing social media marketing tools.
