Google has launched its Gemini AI feature in Maps for India, enhancing navigation with road-safety warnings and detailed route information. This integration, which debuted in the U.S., offers hands-free voice assistance, contextual prompts, and details about notable places. Miriam Daniel, VP of Google Maps, emphasized the need for significant localization to cater to Indian users’ unique communication styles, question framing, and geographical references.
Gemini will be accessible to all Android and iOS users in India, supporting nine local languages. Key updates include audio and visual alerts for hazardous road segments, proactive notifications for traffic delays, and the display of speed limits, all tailored to enhance user safety in major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
