Databricks Launches Lakebase Database to Power AI Applications

admin

Databricks has unveiled Databricks Lakebase, following its recent acquisition of Neon, a serverless Postgres startup for about $1 billion. This innovative operational database aims to address modern data challenges, merging operational and analytical data for intelligent applications, particularly within AI workloads. Unlike traditional databases, Lakebase is a fully-managed, PostgreSQL-based solution that simplifies server and infrastructure management, offering compatibility across major cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. Databricks co-founder Ali Ghodsi emphasizes that Lakebase represents a new database category tailored for the AI era, enabling Fortune 500 companies to modernize outdated systems. In addition to Lakebase, Databricks launched several products, including Lakeflow Designer, a no-code ETL tool for creating data pipelines, and Databricks One, which provides business users access to data tools without needing deep technical knowledge. Another introduction, Agent Bricks, automates the creation of custom AI agents, streamlining development processes for businesses.
