OpenAI has launched the Sora AI video generation app for Android users in select regions, following its successful debut on iOS last month. The app allows users to create videos from text prompts or images, boasting a user-friendly interface similar to popular Reels platforms. Android users can remix videos and share them for increased engagement, while also exploring a feed of AI-generated content from other creators. However, India is notably absent from the current rollout, likely due to the limited availability of the ChatGPT Go version, which does not include Sora features. OpenAI faces scrutiny from Japanese anime creators, who have expressed concerns about the use of their licensed content to train Sora’s AI video capabilities. As OpenAI aims to expand its user base, expectations for broader access to the Sora app—including in India—may rise soon. For now, Sora is available in Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.
