Meta Takes Action Against AI Apps Generating Non-Consensual Fake Nudes

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has filed a lawsuit against Hong Kong-based Joy Timeline HK Limited, the owner of CrushAI, for generating fake non-consensual nude images using AI. This practice, part of a troubling trend of “nudify” apps, exploits images of clothed individuals to create explicit content without consent. Meta has reinforced its policies against such abusive content by banning the promotion of these apps and removing related advertisements, pages, and accounts from its platforms. The company has implemented strict measures to prevent advertising of nudify software, including blocking related search terms. Experts estimate that over 10,000 ads promoting such apps exist on Meta’s platforms. In addition to legal action, Meta announced its collaboration with Tech Coalition’s Lantern Program to enhance tracking of websites that violate child safety rules, demonstrating its commitment to protecting users from misuse of technology.
