AI Agents Take on Meaningful Tasks at Last

BNY and Walmart are showcasing the true potential of AI agents beyond mere demos. At the Gartner IT Symposium, BNY’s CIO Leigh-Ann Russell highlighted their 117 AI solutions that enhance bank operations and profitability. BNY has implemented around 100 digital employees who manage tasks like code vulnerability identification, enabling human engineers to tackle more complex issues. By utilizing tools from OpenAI and Google, BNY ensures robust security in its operations. Meanwhile, Walmart’s AI agents significantly expedite product development, cutting down the fashion cycle by up to 18 weeks. Their Trend-to-Product agent has already improved the specification process for items like the No Boundaries Off-Shoulder Mini Dress. Both companies emphasize that AI serves as a productivity enhancer, not a human replacement. Despite perceptions of slow adoption, early results demonstrate that AI agents bring genuine value when integrated effectively into business processes, paving the way for broader acceptance and implementation.
