OpenAI has launched a new WhatsApp-like Group Chats feature within ChatGPT, transforming the AI assistant into a collaborative tool for group discussions and decision-making. Initially available to select users, this feature enables multiple participants to interact with ChatGPT simultaneously, facilitating activities like trip planning and information organization. Unlike other platforms that prioritize ad personalization, OpenAI emphasizes utility and privacy, ensuring no data is monetized.
Users can invite up to 20 individuals via shareable links and create lightweight profiles for group identification. To begin a group chat, users simply tap a people icon in existing conversations, allowing for easy duplication of threads. This pilot program is currently accessible to Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan, with plans for further expansion based on user feedback. As OpenAI aims to evolve ChatGPT into an all-in-one platform, the Group Chats feature marks a significant step in enhancing collaborative capabilities.
