WhatsApp to Introduce Cross-Platform Messaging Features Soon

Meta has introduced a groundbreaking messaging feature for WhatsApp, enabling users to chat with those on third-party apps like BirdyChat and Haiket. This update aligns with Europe’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), promoting interoperability among messaging platforms. The feature supports text, images, voice, video, and file exchanges while maintaining end-to-end encryption, as partner apps will adhere to WhatsApp’s security standards. Users can opt in via a new settings toggle, choosing to display these messages in a dedicated “Third-party chats” folder or their main inbox. This development aims to break WhatsApp’s long-standing “walled garden” approach, streamlining communication and reducing the necessity of downloading multiple apps. As WhatsApp rolls this out over the coming months in Europe, users can expect enhanced privacy and upcoming app improvements, including better scam protection and shared media viewing. Keep an eye out for future expansions and additional compatible messaging apps beyond the initial launch partners.
