I’ve been eager to try Gemini for Home since its announcement, but my experience so far has been frustrating. Despite signing up for early access and receiving a Google Home Premium subscription, the rollout has been confusing. While hoping for enhanced automation with the voice assistant, I discovered I couldn’t create tasks without the proper devices. Gemini initially affirmed it created automations, but they were flawed due to a lack of device-specific capabilities. The app doesn’t clearly indicate which devices support presence sensing, leading to significant confusion. Moreover, Gemini often struggles to recognize my smart home setup, making its promised automation features nearly useless. This lack of clarity means users might inadvertently pay for features they can’t utilize, especially if they don’t own compatible devices. For those without smart cameras or doorbells, the Google Home Premium subscription may not be worth the investment.
