OpenAI Unveils Free ChatGPT Workspace for All U.S. K–12 Educators

OpenAI has launched a new version of ChatGPT tailored for K–12 educators and school districts, offering a secure platform, education-specific tools, and free access until June 2027. Leah Belsky, leading the initiative, emphasized the need for teachers to explore AI independently. The new workspace is private and compliant, ensuring student data protection while enabling educators to personalize instruction and collaborate effectively. Features include the ability to upload files, utilize GPT-5.1 Auto, and integrate with tools like Canva and Google Drive. School leaders can manage staff access securely. More than 200,000 teachers, including large districts and the state of Delaware, are participating in the initial rollout, which aims to gain feedback for future improvements. With three in five teachers already using AI tools, this innovative workspace empowers educators to enhance classroom experiences while safeguarding essential privacy measures.
