The University of Utah has introduced ChatGPT Edu, a specialized version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT for higher education, ensuring data security and compliance with university standards. Students, faculty, and staff can access this secure AI tool through the University IT Service Catalog. Chief AI Officer Manish Parashar emphasized that ChatGPT Edu enhances teaching, learning, and research while protecting sensitive data. The tool incorporates advanced features, including state-of-the-art AI models, multimodal capabilities, and customized GPT experiences. Users are advised to utilize ChatGPT Edu instead of personal accounts to benefit from additional privacy and academic optimizations. Training resources, including a virtual webinar and sessions for over 100 staff and students, will facilitate effective AI usage. Since the launch of the One-U Responsible AI Initiative, the university is rapidly advancing its mission to integrate AI across various departments, enhancing societal impact and educational outcomes.
