Google has unveiled Gemini 3, enhancing its AI chatbot with advanced generative UI capabilities. A standout feature of this update is the ability to detect whether an image has been generated by AI. This is increasingly vital as more AI tools create content indistinguishable from human-made works. Gemini’s new functionality includes checking for invisible watermarks through Google’s SynthID Detector, a system introduced earlier this year. SynthID embeds a digital watermark within the metadata of AI-generated images, videos, and audio, making it challenging to remove completely. Users can upload images to Gemini, tagging @SynthID to verify AI origins. Importantly, this watermark detection can reveal even partial traces of SynthID, specifically in edited content. While this tool is a significant step forward, its effectiveness hinges on broader adoption among content creators. Google is actively engaging partners for wider implementation of SynthID, ensuring reliable detection as the demand for AI transparency grows.
