Young People Rely on ChatGPT and Gemini for Their Daily News Updates

admin

The latest Reuters Institute survey highlights a notable shift in news consumption, revealing that 7% of respondents use chatbots for news updates, with the figure rising to 12% among those under 35. OpenAI’s ChatGPT leads as the most popular chatbot, followed by Google’s Gemini and Meta’s Llama. Users appreciate the personalized news offered by AI, particularly for summarization (27%), translation (24%), and article recommendations (21%). However, skepticism persists regarding AI’s reliability, with many believing it could reduce transparency and trustworthiness in news. Additionally, traditional media is losing ground to social platforms, with almost half of 18-24-year-olds citing TikTok as their primary news source. The report notes an increase in news consumption via the platform X, particularly among young, right-leaning users. Conversely, newer platforms like Threads and Bluesky have seen minimal impact on news consumption.
