TikTok is addressing the growing concern of AI-generated content, commonly referred to as “AI slop,” by introducing new content control features. Users will soon have the ability to adjust sliders for various content types, including a dedicated slider for AI-generated content (AIGC). This aims to enhance user control over their feeds, allowing for a better experience compared to competitors like Google’s YouTube and Meta’s platforms. TikTok’s system employs watermarking technology, including invisible watermarks and metadata standards like C2PA, to track AI-generated videos, ensuring they remain labeled even after edits. While Google’s SynthID and Meta’s “Imagined with AI” badge offer similar transparency, experts caution that no system is failsafe, as metadata can be easily removed. Nonetheless, this initiative represents a significant move toward combating AI slop and enhancing user engagement on TikTok.
