A recent IBM survey reveals a pressing need for new data roles, with 82% of Chief Data Officers (CDOs) hiring for positions that didn’t exist last year, primarily focused on generative AI. However, there’s a significant challenge in filling these roles, as only 26% of CDOs feel their data is ready to support AI. Many organizations are grappling with issues like data accessibility, integrity, and accuracy, while 77% of CDOs express difficulties in recruiting the necessary talent. Despite budget cutbacks in IT, investment in data strategies is rising, with 13% of IT budgets now dedicated to data, highlighting the urgency for effective data management. To facilitate AI integration, companies are encouraged to democratize data access, develop robust data strategies, leverage unstructured data, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and enhance data literacy across all levels. Overall, organizations must prioritize intuitive data tools to drive effective data-driven decision-making and harness AI’s potential.
