At the recent national conference in New Delhi, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in revolutionizing power distribution networks. He discussed how these technologies can enhance operational efficiency and consumer experiences through smart meter analytics, predictive maintenance, and theft detection. The event highlighted active participation from various stakeholders, including DISCOMs and technology providers, showcasing innovative solutions aimed at optimizing energy management. The conference received 195 applications, with 51 shortlisted for evaluation, leading to awards for top performers like TNPDCL and Tata Power. Khattar also launched the STELLAR initiative, designed to support DISCOMs in long-term resource planning. The importance of consumer engagement and transparent communication about AI/ML benefits was stressed to ensure effective implementation and trust in new technologies. This positions India as a leader in digital electricity reform and efficient grid governance.
