AI Avatars in China Showcase Superior Influencing Power

admin

On June 15, 2025, Chinese influencer Luo Yonghao and co-host Xiao Mu successfully utilized AI-generated avatars for a six-hour livestream on Baidu’s “Youxuan” platform, earning 55 million yuan ($7.65 million). This experiment highlighted that AI avatars can outperform real people in sales, as Luo’s prior livestream garnered fewer orders. The avatars, created from extensive video data, mimic Luo’s unique style and delivery, showcasing Baidu’s advancements in digital human technology. Livestream shopping in China has gained traction since the pandemic, offering alternative income sources amid economic challenges. While digital humans eliminate the need for large production teams and allow for continuous streaming, compliance with advertising regulations and platform policies remains a key challenge. Luo, who began livestreaming in 2020 to salvage his smartphone company, noted the impressive capabilities of this technology, with future plans for multilingual streaming to reach a broader audience anticipated.
