OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Academy for News Organisations, a digital learning platform designed to help journalists and publishers incorporate artificial intelligence into their workflows. Announced at the AI and Journalism Summit, this initiative, developed in collaboration with the American Journalism Project and The Lenfest Institute for Journalism, offers hands-on training, technical playbooks, and case studies tailored for newsrooms. The curriculum features a module titled “AI Essentials for Journalists,” alongside specialized sessions for product and technology teams aimed at developing custom AI tools. Key topics include investigative research, data analysis, multilingual reporting, and production workflows. The platform promotes responsible AI implementation, providing guidance on internal governance and ethical frameworks to ensure accuracy and transparency. Following successful partnerships with major media outlets like News Corp and The Financial Times, OpenAI intends to enhance the academy with live programming and expanded coursework, serving as a valuable resource for news organisations adapting to AI in journalism.
