Google has enhanced the Gemini app’s capabilities to detect AI-generated videos, allowing users to upload files up to 100MB to verify if they were created or edited using Google AI. The Gemini app examines audio and visual elements for SynthID watermarks, identifying AI-generated content segments. Although this feature is now available globally, it primarily detects SynthID watermarks, which limits its effectiveness as many AI tools do not utilize this standard. With the rise of AI-generated media, distinguishing between authentic and AI-created content has become increasingly difficult. In response, Google now enables users to query if a video was made using Google AI. While the capability to verify images and videos is a significant achievement, the broader AI ecosystem must adopt a standardized watermarking solution to enhance detection across various AI tools. The effectiveness of SynthID and similar technologies in achieving widespread usage and adoption still remains uncertain.
