Visa is rapidly advancing towards introducing AI-enabled commerce, expecting millions of consumers to rely on AI agents for purchases by the end of 2026. Announced on December 18, Visa’s progress includes hundreds of successful agent-initiated transactions, according to Rubail Birwadker, Visa’s senior vice president of growth products. This initiative builds on the Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC) program launched earlier this year, collaborating with over 100 partners globally. With more than 30 partners developing within the VIC sandbox and 20 agents directly integrating, Visa is set to revolutionize the shopping experience. The introduction of the Trusted Agent Protocol with Worldpay and Cloudflare aims to secure communication between merchants and AI agents. Jack Forestell highlighted the focus on seamless and secure transactions to enhance consumer experiences. Visa’s commitment to agentic commerce underscores its role in transforming shopping through innovative technology and strong partnerships.
