OpenAI is introducing a new feature called “Skills” for ChatGPT, mirroring Claude’s Skills functionality. Currently, ChatGPT utilizes GPTs, designed for tailoring to user needs, but Claude’s Skills are folder-based and enhance AI capabilities in specific domains, like frontend design.
Claude’s Skills are characterized by being composable—stacking multiple skills effectively, portable—usable across different platforms, efficient—loading only necessary components, and powerful—able to incorporate executable code for enhanced reliability. ChatGPT’s Skills, referred to as “hazelnuts,” will feature slash commands, a Skills editor, and allow users to convert custom GPTs into skills.
While the exact rollout date remains uncertain, a January 2026 release is anticipated. This new development aims to bolster user experiences by integrating advanced features similar to those offered by Claude, significantly enhancing AI functionality for diverse applications.
