However, as 2025 approaches, experts like Andrej Karpathy and Gary Marcus highlight a gap between hype and reality, branding AI agents as “cognitively lacking” and largely ineffective. While existing chatbots excel at text-based interactions, they struggle with multi-step processes that require navigating the internet, often taking excessive time to perform simple actions. Though advancements like OpenAI’s Codex show potential in automating software development, broader applications remain elusive.
