OpenAI Reports Lower ChatGPT Usage Among Irish Compared to Other Nations, Says Taoiseach – The Irish Times

The usage of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in Ireland is lower compared to some countries, with only 28% of the population using it weekly. This was discussed during a meeting between Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar, held on May 27th, 2023. With over a million users in Ireland, ChatGPT is recognized for its capabilities in writing and coding. Friar emphasized generative AI’s potential in sectors like healthcare and education, citing Estonia’s integration of ChatGPT into its secondary school curriculum. However, no current plans exist to implement ChatGPT in Irish classrooms. Friar also stressed the need for workforce skills development in AI. OpenAI expressed commitment to Ireland’s economic growth and has initiated the “OpenAI for Ireland” program, promoting AI literacy and training for tech entrepreneurs and SMEs. The company’s presence in Dublin, housing 55 employees, underscores its strategic importance in supporting Ireland’s leadership in AI within the EU.
