IIIT-Delhi Researchers Create AI Tools for Early Cancer Detection via Simple Blood Tests

Researchers at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Delhi, led by Prof Debarka Sengupta, have developed innovative artificial intelligence tools that enable early cancer detection through a simple and affordable blood test. This groundbreaking test leverages Tumor Educated Platelets (TEPs) to identify early-stage cancers by analyzing detectable signals in blood platelets, making it feasible in low-resource environments. The AI-driven, pan-cancer blood test can detect multiple cancer types from a minimal blood sample, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional diagnostic methods.

Furthermore, Sengupta’s lab is exploring single-cell genomics to understand tumor cell behavior and resistance to treatments. Their research integrates various patient data, paving the way for personalized therapeutic strategies. With India’s vast patient population and growing digital health infrastructure, IIIT-Delhi is positioned to lead precision oncology innovations, making advanced cancer detection and treatment accessible to millions. These advances demonstrate the potential of AI in revolutionizing cancer diagnosis and management globally.
