Despite the Disappearance of OpenAI and Jony Ive’s ‘IO’ Brand, Their AI Hardware Partnership Endures

admin

OpenAI has removed references to io, a hardware startup co-founded by Apple designer Jony Ive, from its website and social media. This follows OpenAI’s announcement of a nearly $6.5 billion acquisition aimed at creating dedicated AI hardware. Although OpenAI confirmed that the acquisition deal is still progressing, they have taken down related content due to a trademark lawsuit from Iyo, a hearing device startup developed from Google’s moonshot factory. The original announcement blog post and a video featuring Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have been made unavailable. OpenAI spokesperson Kayla Wood stated that the content removal was due to a court order linked to the trademark complaint regarding the name “io,” which OpenAI disputes and is currently reviewing.
