Orange is partnering with Ericsson to implement 5G network slicing across Europe, utilizing Ericsson’s Service Orchestration and Assurance platform. This initiative coincides with Orange’s expansion of its 5G standalone (5G SA) network, set to begin in 2025. Network slicing allows for multiple virtual networks to operate over a single 5G infrastructure, which requires a 5G SA environment—many operators currently rely on non-standalone (NSA) systems. Orange has already launched 5G SA in Belgium, Spain, and France, with recent advancements in Romania during a sporting event. According to Dave Bolan from Dell’Oro Group, this collaboration marks a significant move towards dynamic, cloud-native networks. Laurent Leboucher, CTO of Orange, emphasized that the partnership will enable tailored services for both business and retail customers. As operators globally, including T-Mobile US, begin deploying 5G SA and innovative slicing solutions, 2025 is anticipated to be pivotal in advancing these technologies.
