Okta has launched Cross App Access, a protocol designed to enhance security, visibility, and control over AI agents’ interactions with enterprise systems and applications. This protocol extends OAuth capabilities, giving IT teams oversight of agent-driven and application-to-application interactions. Cross App Access simplifies access management, which previously required users to manually approve each integration, offering limited visibility to IT departments and heightening security vulnerabilities.
With the rise of AI tools communicating through protocols like Model Context Protocol and Agent2Agent, the need for a centralized oversight mechanism becomes critical. Cross App Access enables AI tools to request access through Okta, which assesses requests against company policies and issues tokens for seamless integration, eliminating repeated user approvals.
This shift not only helps reduce risks associated with token management and fragmented controls but also enhances user experience by enabling faster, standardized access while meeting compliance requirements. The protocol will be available to select Okta Platform customers in Q3.
