This update, introduced with Veo 3.1, offers the capability to generate videos in a 9:16 format, specifically designed for mobile-first applications. Google claims this feature enables faster results and improved composition by producing full-frame vertical content instead of cropping landscape videos. However, concerns arise about the potential increase in low-quality AI-generated content, often referred to as “AI slop.” Critics point to previous initiatives, such as Meta’s Vibes, which have been branded as “infinite slop machines.” While the demand for social-ready video is evident, experts question whether this new functionality will enhance the user experience or contribute further to content clutter.
