Huawei Expands TFDS Technology for Passenger Train Inspections
Huawei is enhancing its TFDS (Trouble of Moving Freight Car Detection System) technology, initially designed for freight wagons, to automate the inspection of passenger trains. Launched in 2023, TFDS utilizes high-definition trackside cameras to capture images of freight trains, which were previously analyzed manually by around 6,000 inspectors managing an overwhelming load of nearly 15,000 images daily. To address this, Huawei has integrated advanced AI algorithms from its Pangu Railway Model, capable of identifying over 70 classes of freight rolling stock and more than 430 fault types. With a remarkable 99.3% fault identification rate, this upgraded system reduces inspection time from 15 minutes and several staff to just 5-8 minutes with only one or two employees. Future developments aim for comprehensive exterior inspections of train cars, significantly enhancing operational efficiency in China’s vast railway network.
