Google has unveiled a significant update for Gemini AI, now integrated into Chromebooks, enhancing productivity and privacy. The rollout begins with the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, featuring a bright OLED display, Dolby Atmos speakers, and powered by the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra chip, capable of 50 trillion operations per second. The base model starts at $649, including a one-year Google AI Pro subscription.
Key Gemini AI features include “Select to Search” for easy information retrieval and “Text Capture,” which transforms images and documents into editable text. The “Simplify” tool converts complex language into easily understandable sentences. New shortcuts and the Smart Grouping feature improve organization and multitasking by clustering related tabs and files.
Notably, all processing occurs locally on the device for enhanced privacy, ensuring users’ data remains secure while still allowing cloud resource access only with user consent. This update positions Chromebook Plus as a leader in privacy-focused, AI-driven laptops.
