A recent survey by CloudEagle.ai reveals that 60% of enterprise SaaS and AI applications operate without IT oversight, contributing to serious identity governance challenges. This phenomenon, known as “shadow IT,” leads to security vulnerabilities and compliance risks, as many applications bypass traditional identity management controls. The survey, conducted with 1,000 CIOs and CISOs, indicates that 50% of employees have privileged access exceeding their roles, yet only 5% of enterprises enforce least-privilege access policies. Moreover, 85% rely on static access rights, and nearly half of ex-employees retain access to applications long after leaving, risking unauthorized access. The survey also highlights that 70% of CIOs consider unauthorized AI tools a significant security threat. In response, identity governance teams are garnering more budget and authority, emphasizing the need for automation in access management and the appointment of a chief identity officer to unify oversight across departments effectively.
