Gemini on Android to Connect with Apps Even When Activity Logs Are Disabled—Privacy Remains Intact

admin

Google recently caused privacy concerns after an email indicated that its Gemini AI assistant on Android could connect to certain apps regardless of whether App Activity is turned off. Users shared screenshots on social media, noting the contradictory messaging. The email stated that Gemini could assist with tasks in apps like Phone, Messages, and WhatsApp, leading to confusion about what “apps” referred to. Many interpreted this as a potential privacy risk. However, further clarification revealed the “Gemini Apps Activity” is a separate setting for managing activity logs and data retention. Turning this setting off deletes data after 72 hours, while turning it on allows Google to use data to enhance services. The July 7 update means users won’t need to enable activity logs for app connectivity, ultimately addressing previous concerns rather than creating new ones, offering users improved functionality without compromising privacy.
