British Airways’ Parent Company Introduces Cutting-Edge AI Tool in Innovation Strategy

admin

International Airlines Group (IAG), parent company of British Airways, has unveiled an AI-powered engine maintenance tool, the Engine Optimisation System (EOS), as part of its enhanced innovation strategy. This system, currently operational at Aer Lingus, will be implemented across IAG’s other airlines by year-end. EOS utilizes advanced AI algorithms to optimize maintenance schedules, evaluating millions of scenarios based on data like available parts, personnel, and regulatory compliance. As aircraft maintenance costs rise due to aging fleets and a backlog exacerbated by the pandemic, IAG aims to enhance efficiency and fleet availability with the new tool. IAG’s AI team, comprising 70 specialists across London and Barcelona, is focused on scalable projects that extend beyond initial proof-of-concept stages. The initiative is supported by IAGi Ventures, which recently launched a €200 million fund to invest €40 million annually over five years.
