Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company known for its chatbot Claude, has reached a valuation of $380 billion, positioning itself as one of the most valuable startups globally, alongside OpenAI and SpaceX. This surge follows a substantial $30 billion funding round led by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund and Coatue, which included investments from Nvidia and Microsoft. Despite not being profitable, Anthropic anticipates sales of $14 billion in the coming year, following its journey from generating its first dollar in revenue less than three years ago. Co-founded by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic focuses on developing “enterprise-grade” AI products. It aims to influence AI regulation with a newly established $20 million organization. As these AI giants prepare for potential IPOs, they could significantly enhance their public image and funding opportunities, but must also brace for increased scrutiny from investors regarding their business models and financial health.
