Spotify has integrated over 50 new features and changes into its app in the past year, driven by artificial intelligence (AI). The company’s co-CEO, Gustav Söderström, revealed that top developers have not written code since December 2022, thanks to a Claude Code-powered system called “Honk.” This innovative workflow allows engineers to request features or fixes via Slack, which are then implemented by AI, streamlining app development. Spotify is also exploring the creation of a unique large language model (LLM) dataset centered around music. However, these advancements come alongside a recent subscription price hike, making Spotify Premium Individual one of the most expensive options at $12.99 per month. While the expanded feature set is aimed at enhancing the user experience, some consumers may find the app’s complexity and the reliance on AI concerning. As Spotify continues to innovate, it raises questions about user satisfaction amidst rapid changes.
