In his Budget 2026 speech, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced that Singaporeans enrolling in select training courses will receive six months of free access to premium artificial intelligence (AI) tools. This initiative aims to enhance familiarity with AI technologies, encouraging practical application of AI skills, particularly as tools like ChatGPT and Gemini become widely accessible. Despite basic AI tools being free, advanced features typically require subscriptions. The SkillsFuture website will be redesigned for easier navigation of AI-related courses to match users’ skills and work needs. The Government plans to expand the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) program to help workers across various sectors transition to AI capabilities, starting with the accountancy and legal professions. Wong assured that while Singapore embraces AI, support measures will mitigate job displacement, ensuring all Singaporeans have the opportunity to succeed in a technology-driven future. The emphasis will also be on enhancing AI literacy at higher learning institutes.
