Google Enhances AI-Driven Ask Photos Feature and Resumes Rollout

admin

Google has enhanced its Ask Photos feature and is resuming a rollout for eligible U.S. users after pausing it in June due to latency and interface issues. The updated Ask Photos combines Google Photos’ traditional search with AI capabilities, allowing for quicker results on simple queries like “dogs” or “people.” The AI operates using Google’s Gemini models, which deliver comprehensive image recognition-based responses. Announced at Google I/O 2024, Ask Photos enables users to search their Google Photos library using natural language, offering results in a chat-like format. This feature can be particularly helpful for locating specific items, such as a license plate number or restaurant details from past events. The initial rollout in September 2024 faced challenges, including slow responses. The new version balances speed and functionality. To access Ask Photos, users must be at least 18, based in the U.S., have an English Google Account, and enable the “Face Groups” feature.
