Unionized Starbucks employees are striking today along Colorado’s front range, demanding recognition of their collective bargaining rights. Represented by Starbucks Workers United, over 12,000 workers across 550 stores are dissatisfied with stagnant negotiations over staffing hours, pay increases, and labor practices. Starbucks claims it has negotiated in good faith, but the union has pulled away from discussions. Meanwhile, one of the pioneering unionized locations in Lafayette will picket at the South Boulder store, participating in the wider strike impacting multiple locations in Colorado.
In a parallel issue, seven states relying on the Colorado River still lack a post-2026 water allocation plan, remaining stalled past a federal deadline for a new framework. This scarcity poses challenges amid climate change. Additionally, Governor Jared Polis unveiled measures to address an $850 million budget deficit, including Medicaid rate cuts, although these proposals have faced bipartisan pushback.
