Meta Welcomes Prominent OpenAI Researcher to Enhance AI Reasoning Model Development Team

Meta has successfully recruited Trapit Bansal, a key researcher from OpenAI known for contributing to the O1 reasoning model, bolstering its efforts in AI development. This move comes amid Meta’s aggressive recruitment strategies, highlighted by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Bansal’s expertise in reinforcement learning and his close collaboration with OpenAI’s co-founder, Ilya Sutskever, position him as a significant asset for Meta’s new “AI superintelligence team,” led by Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. This team aims to enhance Meta’s machine learning technologies across its platforms. Alongside Bansal, Meta previously hired other notable former OpenAI researchers as part of its aggressive talent acquisition. Beyond improving its AI capabilities, Meta is pursuing self-sufficiency by developing its own AI chips to reduce reliance on NVIDIA’s processors, with an ambitious plan for an AI search engine already in the works.
