The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK has joined the HealthAI Global Regulatory Network as a founding ‘pioneer’ country, focusing on the safe, effective use of AI in healthcare. This collaboration aims to facilitate international sharing of safety alerts, monitor AI tool performance, and shape global standards. UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized the country’s commitment to responsible AI innovation, essential for enhancing patient care under their 10-year health plan. The UK will be the first of ten countries invited to this network, which aims to improve healthcare safety and effectiveness globally. A signing ceremony was held on June 24, 2025, with key officials present, including Lord Patrick Vallance and Dr. Ricardo Baptista Leite. The MHRA is leveraging its national expertise, including its AI Airlock program for regulatory testing of AI medical devices, seeking to build trust and promote AI innovations, thus maintaining the highest safety and ethical standards.
