Former Meta Engineer Debunks Sam Altman’s $100M Talent Acquisition Claims Against OpenAI

OpenAI engineers Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai have denied rumors that they received $100 million signing bonuses to join Meta Platforms Inc. They confirmed their transition to Meta but labeled the claims as “fake,” despite OpenAI CEO Sam Altman suggesting otherwise. The engineers previously worked at OpenAI, establishing its Zurich office, after their tenure at Google’s DeepMind. Meta, under CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is forming a competitive “superintelligence team” of 50 experts. Altman commented on the aggressive recruitment, stating Meta’s offers were “crazy,” yet he expressed satisfaction that none of OpenAI’s top talent have accepted. Meta’s recent financial filings show that no senior executive received a $100 million payout, with COO Javier Olivan’s highest reported compensation at $25.5 million. Meanwhile, Meta’s stock has surged, bolstered by recent announcements, with analysts optimistic about future performance.
