Starting February 2, 2025, the EU’s AI Act mandates businesses to prioritize compliance with new AI regulations, including a significant “AI Literacy” requirement. This law obligates companies using AI systems to ensure that staff are adequately informed about AI governance and operational standards. Defined in the Act, an “AI system” must operate autonomously, adapt after deployment, produce outputs such as predictions or recommendations, serve explicit or implicit objectives, and influence environments.
AI chatbots, like ChatGPT, fit this definition by functioning autonomously and adapting through continuous updates based on user interactions. They generate content rooted in both explicit programming and human feedback, fulfilling the criteria outlined in the Act. As such, companies utilizing chatbots must meet AI Literacy standards. While this requirement poses challenges, it also presents opportunities for businesses to enhance compliance and manage risks effectively.
