I recently recorded a podcast on AI and writing and reflected on the role of AI in writing during my flight home. AI is increasingly proficient at producing prose, likely surpassing many professional writers in the near future. Most written content lacks creativity, focused instead on conveying ideas clearly, leading to widespread use of AI for writing. However, current AI struggles with inventiveness and may prioritize reliability over originality. While AI can assist with writer’s block, human collaboration remains preferable. Readers seek both information and the unique perspectives of authors, making genuine stakes in writing crucial. Artistic merit stems from the human experience behind creations. Despite appreciating AI artworks, I believe that authentic human expression holds greater value. True writing articulates motives and emotions, painting a picture of effort and life behind the words. Ultimately, writing that resonates arises from human experiences rather than automated generation.
