OpenAI Reduces 2030 Compute Goal from $1.4 Trillion to $600 Billion

OpenAI has revised its computing infrastructure plans, now aiming to spend approximately $600 billion by 2030, down from the previously discussed $1.4 trillion. This shift follows concerns that prior expansion targets were overly ambitious compared to anticipated revenue, which is projected to exceed $280 billion by 2030 from both consumer and enterprise segments. The restructured spending aligns closely with revenue projections, as OpenAI has secured multi-billion dollar agreements with major chipmakers and cloud providers. Nvidia is reportedly in talks to invest up to $30 billion in OpenAI, potentially valuing the company at $730 billion. In 2025, OpenAI surpassed its $10 billion revenue goal by earning $13.1 billion while spending $8 billion. As Nvidia prepares to release its quarterly earnings, investor concerns about AI investments and their returns continue to mount. Sam Altman has reiterated OpenAI’s strong partnership with Nvidia amid market scrutiny. For ongoing updates, subscribe to our free newsletter.
