Discussing Bitcoin or Cryptocurrency on AI Agent OpenClaw’s Discord Will Lead to a Ban

OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent framework created by Austrian developer Peter Steinberger, has implemented a strict ban on any mention of cryptocurrencies within its Discord community. This rule arose after a turbulent period in late January when scammers took advantage of the project’s rebranding, promoting a fake token, $CLAWD, during a brief window of confusion. The situation escalated, damaging the project’s reputation and leading to legal warnings from AI firm Anthropic. Steinberger emphasized that discussing crypto can harm the community, stating, “You are actively damaging the project.” Security concerns also emerged, with researchers identifying vulnerabilities and malicious scripts targeting unsuspecting users. Despite these setbacks, OpenClaw has flourished, surpassing 200,000 GitHub stars, and Steinberger has since joined OpenAI to lead its personal agents division. The no-crypto rule remains in place, highlighting the project’s commitment to integrity and security in the face of speculative trends.
