Facebook Requests Access to Use Meta AI on Unshared Photos in Your Camera Roll

Share

Facebook is prompting users to grant access to their phone’s camera roll to facilitate AI-generated photo suggestions while creating new Stories. Upon opting into “cloud processing,” users allow Facebook to upload and analyze their camera photos, generating creative content like collages or AI transformations. The pop-up assures users that suggestions are private and won’t be used for ad targeting.

However, agreeing to this feature means users accept Meta’s AI terms, which permit analysis of images, including facial features and contextual information, for personalized AI outputs. Despite the company’s assurances, concerns about privacy and the unclear nature of what users consent to are evident.

Though some users are questioning the feature, which had previously surfaced earlier this year, there has been little backlash so far. The functionality highlights the ongoing trend of companies leveraging personal data to enhance AI capabilities, raising important questions about user consent and data privacy.
