Training Educators in AI: Why It’s More Complex Than You Think (Opinion)

In response to the article “Rising Use of AI in Schools Comes With Big Downsides for Students,” concerns are raised about the effectiveness of current training programs for teachers regarding AI utilization in education. While the idea of enhancing teacher proficiency with AI tools appears beneficial, existing training sessions, often conducted by tech companies, lack quality and objectivity. The main issue highlighted is the absence of independent AI experts who can provide comprehensive, unbiased training for educators. For meaningful progress in AI integration within classrooms, it is essential to establish a professional cadre of noncommercial AI experts dedicated to equipping teachers with the necessary skills. This independent approach would ensure that educators are better prepared to navigate the challenges associated with AI in the educational landscape. Promoting the development of this profession will significantly improve AI’s role in enhancing learning experiences for students.
