Safe Software Expands FME with MCP Support for Enhanced AI Tool Integration

Safe Software has integrated the Model Context Protocol (MCP) into its FME data integration platform, enhancing connectivity between large language models and enterprise data workflows. This update introduces two key features: the MCPCaller transformer and MCP Server capabilities within FME Flow. MCP standardizes interactions between AI models and external systems like databases, reducing reliance on custom connections. This innovation addresses common challenges organizations face in scaling AI initiatives, such as fragmented integration and complex security management. CEO Don Murray emphasizes that MCP facilitates seamless model adoption without restructuring integrations. The MCPCaller allows workflows to connect to MCP-enabled tools, while the MCP Server enables organizations to expose FME workflows as MCP tools. Enhanced governance features, including OAuth 2.0 support, ensure controlled access and monitoring. With thousands of systems and extensive transformers, FME supports over 20,000 organizations globally, positioning itself as a governed connection layer for AI enterprise applications.
